The opportunity to photograph Brian Lee, lead singer of his own band The Flit landed when friends of mine brought him in to perform for a gay dance here in Hong Kong. Blessed with a very photogenic face, Brian and I managed to do a shoot for beaux magazine, a new publication that is dedicated to Asian male beauty, published and founded by me, Norm Yip.

An Tôn Thất is a composer, singer and musician that I greatly admire. His music is very personal, emotionally charged and haunting. There is a gentle darkness and depth that to his creativity that we both share, and perhaps that is why we both gravitate towards black and white work. The opportunity to meet and photograph this exceptionally gifted man came twice. The first time the time was simply too short, but the second time was more successful. This particular portait was one of the photographs taken of him while he was sitting nude. There is still a sense of vulnerability in his eyes, yet his gaze is very direct and telling. What is he trying to say to me?
