DEVON

I love black and white images. It is what I grew up with. My older brother Wayne taught me the basics of darkroom photography in an evening, after teaching me that getting exposure right was nothing more than getting the needles in the camera to point in the middle. Nothing very technical.

This image of Devon is one of my favorite images from his set. I can’t see his eyes, yet his mouth and repose has so much feeling — a quiet intensity. His body is lean and he is completely unabashed. It was very easy to photograph him, as he is willing to try anything in front of the camera and just let it be, without presenting a kind of ‘me’ attitude.
