This photograph was taken when I was just starting to get myself known for shooting guys. And Ray was one of those guys that I was really interested in seeing in front of my camera. He was so nervous the entire time, practically hiding himself from me. I just needed him to let go and be completely at ease. I think I shot about 10 rolls of film in a period of I believe 4 hours. I was exhausted at the end of it all. This was the best shot. And a pose that no other guy has managed to come up with. The lighting was absolutely perfect, highlighting his face, meanwhile accenting just enough on the other side to give this image one of my favorites of all time.
